Gotta love the Wall Street Journal editors and writers for using terrific words.

ossified, v., p.t., turned into bone; became rigid.

plonk, n., cheap wine of inferior quality.

obloquy, n., strong public criticism or abuse; disgrace brought about by that denunciation.

monopsony, n., a market situation in which there is only one buyer (as opposed to one seller--monopoly).

hegemon, n., someone or some entity that enjoys a predominating influence over others.

enochlophobia, n., fear of crowds.

contranym, n., a word with two opposite meanings, e.g., sanction (n., meaning both “penalty” and “official approval”) or table (v., meaning both “put forth for consideration” or “delay consideration of”).
