cant, n., hypocritical or sanctimonious talk, usually political, religious or moral in nature.

derisive, adj., expressing contempt or ridicule.

hew, v., conform or adhere to.

canard, n., an unfounded rumor or story.

twaddle, n., trivial or foolish speech or writing; blather; nonsense.

bromide, n., a trite and unoriginal idea or remark, typically intended to soothe or placate.
